It’s getting to be that time of year again — Thanksgiving and holiday season! I’ve been getting creative with our lessons and have been incorporating holidays into our activities. They say the simplest activities produce the most fun, and that’s definitely the case with this preschool feed the turkey math game!

Preschool Feed the Turkey Math Game

This activity is so simple to make, you can make it in 10 minutes. If you want to make it into an art project with your preschooler, it will take a bit longer and may look at bit more unique (creativity is encouraged). However, I made mine the night before while my son was in bed and prepped the activity for the morning.

Here’s what you need:

  • Brown paper bag
  • Colored construction paper (yellow, brown, orange, and red)
  • Black marker, glue, and scissors
  • Toy blocks, pumpkins, acorns, or pretend play food

How to make your Preschool Feed the Turkey Math Game

1.) Open the paper bag and glue the top of the paper bag together.

2.) Cut a hole on one side of the bag in the middle for a mouth. (I just pinch the bag in the middle and cut into it).

3.) Cut out different colored feathers from your construction paper and glue them to the top of the back of the bag.

4.) Cut out a beak using construction paper and draw on black eyes using your marker. All done!

How to Play the Preschool Feed the Turkey Math Game

When it comes to playing the game, it starts off with purpose and ends with the preschooler making up their own rules.

The rules are simple, feed the turkey! Take your toys or blocks and have your toddler count as they feed the turkey. You can give them a number out loud, spin a spinner, roll dice, or show them number flashcards and they have to feed the turkey with the correct amount. Easy!

It gets really fun when they figure out that the turkey is too full and needs to throw everything back up again, (Ew!)

I hope you enjoy this fun turkey math game – I know my preschooler did!

Happy Thanksgiving!
