The New Year is here, and if you’re anything like me, you may be preparing some refreshed homeschool plans. One of my intentions for this New Year is to go about homeschooling more simply, which is why I created a simple morning basket to start our day. In this post I will share with you how you can also incorporate a routine by creating a simple morning basket for your homeschool this year.

The Importance of Morning Time

How you start your day can set you and your family up for success or failure. Obviously, we want to avoid failure as much as possible, so setting up a foundation that drives success is essential. One of the ways to do this is by creating a morning basket for the month.

The idea behind a morning basket is to put all your morning activities into one place for easy keeping and easy grabbing, so you can start your morning without any hassles or last minute planning.

Another benefit of starting a morning basket is that you have more time to spend learning with your family and less time trying to figure out what materials you need to start your day. Relaxed family time is always a plus!

Creating Your Simple Morning Basket

Your morning basket should be filled with slow start activities. What I mean by “slow start” is anything that isn’t a part of your core lesson plan. These things may include read-alouds, poems, hymns, puzzles, games, cards, scriptures or Bible readings, prayers, or quiet activities like sewing, weaving, or drawing. Check out our new morning bundles to add to your morning basket here.

What’s in our Morning Basket?

  • Rosary for me and for my child
  • Children’s Bible Stories
  • Read-aloud Books (1-2 books focused on our monthly theme. Example, this next month we are reading books that focus on Arctic animals and winter weather.)
  • Scriptures, Hymns, Poems, and Art Studies from our morning bundle.
  • Alphabet Water Color Cards
  • Puzzle or Game

As you can see, a morning basket can vary depending on your homeschool theme for the month, your children’s ages, and on your interests. Create a morning basket that fits the mold of your homeschool and one that will simplify your morning time.
